I'm a visitor to your beautiful country and dont speak a word of Swedish :( but google translate is doing a great job.

Currently shopping for a bike, hopefully will get one before summer runs out.

Currently living in Malmo, so looking for a advise on good roads to ride, places to go and people to see.

My friend here in Sweden is now interested in bikes now as well and will be getting a licence, but we are a little confused on the rules especially the requirements for the riding test for a "full" licence.

Seems you need a motorcycle over 700cc and over 35kW, so what about bikes that are less then 700cc and over 35kW? I thought a 600cc bike would be a good starter for him but it seems he wont be able to use it for the test? Or not get a full licence with that bike and therefore not be able to ride it even though he will pass the test on it? Am I misunderstanding something?

Anyways, I'm sure I'll figure it out. Looking forwards to riding again and seeing you all on the road.

PS: Do Swedish bikers wave? Its a tradition in New Zealand that bikers wave to each other on the road

Hello Andrey and welcome to Sweden.
From what I found out about the "Mellan klass" motorcycle it seems to be reduced heavy class bike, the restriction is that it has to have less then 25 kW or 0.16 kW/kg (Don't know if it's dry weight or Weight incl. oil, gas, etc:).
During the license test I know that it's important that you have the right kind of bike or you will get flunk the test for that. When I took my license one other guy did his second test due to that his bike was a middle class bike and he was applying for a heavy class license so he had to redo the test after buying a bigger bike. Best to check and re-check before the test. ;)

Hope to see you on the roads, and Yes most of us do wave to each other as you soon will find out :D.

-The bike needs to fullfill both 700cc and the 35kW requirements otherwise he will not get the "full license".-

"Or not get a full licence with that bike and therefore not be able to ride it even though he will pass the test on it? Am I misunderstanding something?"

-Yes this will be the outcome, he will have to restrict engine output of the bike to ride it legally if he only gets "Mellan klass"-

And some bikers wave in Sweden aswell. :)

(Someone correct me if this information is incorrect. It was like this when passed my test in 2007.)

Thanks for the info guys. I have now bought myself a 2005 SV650S and rode it from Goteborg to Malmo. I have to say people drive a lot faster on highways here than in New Zealand.

Highway riding is ok but I really want to find more interesting roads.
I see there is a lack of mountains in Malmo area and therefore a lack of mountain roads.

Here some of my favourite roads in New Zealand:

Anyone know where I can find something like that over here?

Sorry we do not have any roads that you drive on the wrong side of.

But since you are in malmö, you have the old roads through Bokskogen fx or the old roads from malmö to skanör-falsterbo over vellinge.
If you want to drive a littlebit longer take a tour to kullen, just go north at the waters edge through lomma-bjärred-landskrona-helsingborg-höganäs.

And if you want to go a realy long tour then go to trelleborg take the "highway" to ystad and then further on to österlen and simrishamn, turn back and go through tomelilla back to malmö.
I havent driven these last roads for atleast 10 years though, so they migh be less than good, but they used to be nice.

You should probably drive out to "Österlen", the eastern part of Scania. There are nice roads from Ystad up to Åhus that are curvy and shifts from open road to woods. If you have GPS there are tours to download/program.

Check out this one:
